Resonant Fracture
Dust settles into the fine cracks of porcelain dolls arranged in neat rows across the mantle. A heavy vibration travels through the floor, rattling the ceramic limbs and sending a shudder through the fingertips that touch them. This tremor arrives from somewhere deep within the foundation, an unbidden pulse that defies the stillness of the room. As the hum fades into a low ache in the marrow, the objects remain exactly where they were placed, yet their silent alignment feels irrevocably altered by the weight of what just passed through them.
