Broken Reckonings
The pawn shop owner discovered that altering card arrangements changed their meanings: a birthday could become an anniversary with a simple re-stacking, celebrations dissolving into mourning dates. This wasn’t fabrication, however, but the recognition of stories as emerging from context—a fluid sense of being shaped by how things are grouped and who chooses to see them. Each object held multiple potential histories, solidified only through focused attention or deliberately hidden in new arrangements; time itself felt less like a line than interwoven fragments. The accumulating collection wasn't preservation so much as the creation of resonant echoes.
