Reconstructed Visage
A high cheekbone, traced repeatedly across archival photographs, began appearing not as a singular detail but as a necessary component in assembling each face. With every finished portrait, earlier versions subtly shifted, lines redrawn and features recalibrated; past interpretations dissolved into new possibilities. The scent of graphite filled the room as the researcher worked, the fine powder coating surfaces like an expectant layer awaiting another stroke. Each line imposed further order on the records—yet also seemed born from them, a delicate negotiation between what was found and what would be.
